Just like your time, a reporter’s time is valuable. He or she is working in a competitive environment where news needs to be published quickly. Therefore, reporters cannot spend too much time determining your message or the defining aspects of your press release.

Here’s an excerpt from an article on PR News Online:

If only today’s reporters had time for telephonic activities. Surprise: they do! And they will take your call if you lay the groundwork first. They won’t take your call if you have nothing new or interesting to tell them.
